The guys here at Verena Street Coffee Company have collaborated with the guys over at Potosi Brewing Company to come up with the fabulous Shot Tower Espresso Stout.
Perhaps you're wondering how this whole idea got the barrel rolling so to speak?
Every year the city of Potosi holds the Potosi BrewFest at the Holiday Gardens Event Center where over 35 vendors participate including the Potosi Brewing Company. This is where the two interests met. Our guys mentioned that should the brewing company ever want to make a coffee stout be sure and let us know.
Last fall, they finally did.
They stopped by and we gave them a behind-the-scenes tour of our roasting facility. We also sent them home with some of our Shot Tower Espresso™ coffee.
The guys over at the Potosi Brewing Company got to work and produced a couple test batches and gave us some sample bottles to try.
We tried them blind amongst 5 or 6 other coffee stouts and picked them blind as our top choices every time. I think the freshness of the coffee and the beer helps obviously. We've found it very flavorful yet drinkable. - Eric Gantz, co-owner
The Shot Tower Espresso Stout was kegged on August 8, 2016 and was cased the day after that. It's now available to buy in keg or can at several locations as well as at the Potosi Brewing Company.
The Shot Tower Espresso Stout has an ABV of 6.5% and an IBU of 28. It's the perfect brew to kick back and enjoy alone or as an accompaniment to breakfast.
This is a fun breakfast taste. Where are my eggs and bacon? - Untappd.com review
With a cold pressed proprietary blend of our rich ground coffee beans, their brewmaster has crafted a wholly original coffee stout that is both rich in coffee tones and eminently drinkable. Its pleasant espresso aroma leads to rich coffee flavors mixed with notes of roasted malt and hint of chocolate, all topped off with a generous mocha head.
And if you're ever around their neck of the woods, Potosi is a pretty neat little town to see. The Potosi Brewing Company offers a restaurant as well as a museum and gift shop for beer enthusiasts. It's all housed in the c.1852 refurbished brewery downtown loaded with rustic charm and excellent food. Oh, and some really excellent beer.
