What is the Swiss Water® Process?

Unlike other decaffeination methods that rely on harsh chemicals, this chemical-free method prioritizes taste and quality. Here's an overview of the process:

1. The journey begins with soaking a batch of green coffee beans in hot water. This hot water bath acts like a magnet, gently drawing out the caffeine and flavor compounds from the beans.

2. After the soak, the water is separated from the beans. This water is now rich in flavor but also contains the extracted caffeine.

3. The water is removed from the beans and passed through an activated charcoal filter which only allows the capture of the caffeine molecules. The important oil and flavor molecules get to stay in the water.

4. The now decaffeinated, flavor-packed water doesn't go to waste! It serves as a flavor bath for a fresh batch of green coffee beans. This gentle process allows the decaffeinated water to transfer its delicious flavor profile back to the beans, minus the caffeine.

5. Once the decaffeinated flavor is reabsorbed, the beans are dried and then roasted to perfection. Where time and temperature unlock the unique flavors and aromas trapped inside.

Is Swiss Water® decaf coffee good for you?

You can trust the Swiss Water® Process because it uses only water, temperature, and time to gently remove caffeine, while preserving all of the coffee's original taste and aroma characteristics. This means you are getting the very best cup of decaf, free of chemicals or residual processing flavors.

What is the difference between Swiss Water® decaf and regular decaf coffee?

A Swiss Water® decaf coffee uses no chemicals whatsoever to remove the caffeine, while most other decaffeination methods utilize chemical solvents like methylene chloride and ethyl acetate to remove the caffeine. Those methods can impart artificial flavors to the coffee that overpower the natural taste characteristics of the coffee.

The Result?

The best tasting decaf coffee that boasts all the rich flavor and aroma you expect from premium beans, minus the caffeine. Enjoy a smooth, satisfying cup any time of day.

What Does Naturally Decaffeinated Mean?

Naturally decaffeinated refers to the process of removing caffeine from coffee beans without the use of chemical solvents. Instead, methods like the Swiss Water® Process are used to preserve the coffee's flavor and aroma characteristics.

Why Do People Drink Decaf Coffee?

People drink decaf coffee for several reasons, including sensitivity to caffeine, which can cause insomnia, anxiety, or heart palpitations, and the desire to enjoy coffee late at night without disrupting sleep. Others simply prefer the taste of coffee without the stimulating effects of caffeine, or need to avoid caffeine due to medical conditions or medications. Decaf coffee allows them to savor the rich flavor and aroma of coffee without the adverse effects of caffeine.

Decaf Whole Bean Coffee

Our decaf whole bean coffee is a testament to this dedication, offering the same rich, full-bodied flavor as our caffeinated blends, but without the caffeine. Customers love Verena Street for its smooth, satisfying flavor, sustainable sourcing, and the personal touch of a family-owned business that truly cares about every cup.
