Our signature espresso blend has a smooth yet sharp character with no bitterness. The delicately dark roast level results in a taste and aroma that is full-bodied with a sweet and creamy complexity. We have selected several different beans from Central America, South America and Indonesia for this espresso blend to make a unique and nuanced flavor profile. Great for espressos, it also makes a fantastic drip coffee or pour over coffee with its balance of flavor, aroma, and unique tasting notes.

Located on the Mississippi riverfront, Dubuque's Shot Tower is an iconic symbol of the city's history. Built in 1856, it is one of the few remaining shot towers still standing today and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Verena Street® Story
Verena Street® Coffee is named after the neighborhood where we grew up in the Mississippi River valleys of Dubuque, Iowa. The original Verena Street was removed years ago for highway expansion but now lives on as the namesake of our craft roasted coffee. Although we can no longer walk down Verena Street, it is a place we can once again call home.

Espresso roasts like Shot Tower Espresso® are roasted slightly darker to enhance body, sweetness, and crema production under high-pressure extraction.
Does espresso have more caffeine than regular coffee?
Per ounce, an espresso shot is much stronger in caffeine than drip coffee. However, since espresso shots are small and concentrated, a standard cup of brewed coffee usually has more total caffeine.
Can I brew Shot Tower Espresso® without an espresso machine?
Yes — while it’s crafted for espresso machines, you can brew it in moka pots, AeroPress, or drip brewers. It produces a bold, rich cup even outside of espresso brewing.
What grind size should I use for espresso?
For true espresso, use a fine grind that feels like table salt. For drip or French press, adjust coarser to avoid over-extraction.
How do you store espresso beans to maintain flavor?
Both whole beans and ground coffee stay freshest when kept in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry place. Protecting coffee from air, light, and moisture prevents it from going stale too quickly.
