Coarse Ground Coffee for French Press

The French press method thrives on immersion, where coarse coffee grounds are fully submerged in hot water, extracting rich, full flavors without bitterness. The grind should resemble sea salt. Too fine, and you'll end up with sediment in your cup and a bitter taste. For the best results, always start with freshly roasted whole beans, grinding them just before brewing. This ensures that you capture the peak of the coffee’s natural oils and aromas, giving you a truly exceptional cup.

How to Make the Perfect French Press Coffee

  1. Measure and Grind - Start with 1 ounce (about 28 grams) of Verena Street coffee beans for every 15 ounces (450 milliliters) of water. Use a burr grinder to achieve a coarse, even grind.

  2. Boil and Cool Water - Heat water to about 200°F (93°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, let the water sit for 30 seconds after boiling to reach the right temperature.

  3. Add Coffee Grounds - Place the coarse coffee grounds into the French press.

  4. Bloom the Coffee - Pour a small amount of water over the grounds, just enough to saturate them. Wait 30 seconds to let the coffee bloom, which releases trapped carbon dioxide and enhances flavor.

  5. Add Remaining Water - Pour in the rest of the water and stir gently to ensure all grounds are evenly immersed.

  6. Steep - Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.

  7. Press and Serve - Slowly press the plunger down, applying steady pressure. Pour your freshly brewed coffee immediately to avoid over-extraction.

FAQs about French Press Coffee

1. Why is a coarse grind important for French press coffee?
A coarse grind ensures even extraction and prevents fine grounds from passing through the filter, resulting in a smooth, sediment-free cup. If the grind is too fine, it can lead to over-extraction and bitterness.

2. How is Verena Street’s coffee roasted for French press?
At Verena Street, we use a small-batch roasting process that carefully develops the natural flavors of the beans, preserving the oils and aromas essential for a rich, full-bodied French press brew.

3. How fresh is Verena Street coffee?
All of our coffee is freshly roasted and delivered quickly to ensure peak flavor. We prioritize quality, so you’ll always enjoy the freshest coffee possible.

4. Does Verena Street offer free shipping?
Yes! We offer fast, free shipping on orders over $40, and all purchases are backed by our 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
